5 For Fidelity - Ricky Chong

We sat down with Ricky to dig into his 5 favourite cuts from My Love Is Underground — the label built by Jeremy Underground that helped define a new wave of raw 90s New Jersey garage house.

Catch Jeremy and Ricky at Fidelity Studio on Friday 17 October. Final tickets available here.

Jerzzey Boy - Like A (MLIU03)

This release to me was one of the most played ones and my personal introduction to Jerzzey Boy. This emulates the perfect mid 90s New Jersey Garage House golden era and when I first heard it in my early days of digging for house records I honestly couldn’t believe it. Brings back many memories of my youth and I’ll be sure to play it this coming Friday.

Dungeon Meat - The Fuck Off Track (MLIU15)

I’m sure many of you know this one as it done the rounds in Ireland quite a bit when it got released. Plenty of people have had great memories of this being played out in clubs and festivals. Even back when I was attending college in Sligo, It wasn’t a proper house party without this being played. Every DJ needed this in their bag. Good times!

SE62 - True Force

This was the B-side track of the Dungeon Meat ‘The Fuck Off Track’ and oh boy did it do damage on the dance floor. SE62 hailing from Ukraine really showing off his signature chord stabs and while those kept peoples attention, the huge kick drums tore the dance floor apart. I miss this aesthetic of 90's house.

Inner Sense - MoTP

I think this was one of my first introductions to Jeremy’s label MLIU. I started off my DJ journey being inspired by the likes of Jeremy Underground, Kerri Chandler but a lot of the credit goes to my friends sharing these records with me back when I wasn't as educated in the 90s house sound. A close friend of mine back in the early days on college showed me this MoTP track and it’s stuck ever since. An explosion of infectious chords sampled from Terence Parkers ‘ Set Me Free’. This track just keeps building too…. Six minutes of pure 90’s house heaven.

Groovestyle - Love (Underground Mix)

Although this wasn’t a MLIU release, this appeared on Favourite Recordings label as a VA compiled by Jeremy himself. I wanted to include this as it’s probably one of my favourite house records of all time. If you don’t know, now you do!
